Dance weekend to kick off Arts festival
Monday, 4 June 2012
Kick off your clogs and join playful, madcap Belfast dance troupe Ponydance as they rip it up in St George’s Square, and b@r place on Saturday 30 June as Imove on the street hits Hebden Bridge Arts Festival. Joining Ponydance on the Imove stage in St George’s Square will be the superb Sheffield break dancers, Rationale and So & So Circus.
Ponydance will also be offering 20 lucky people the chance to attend an exclusive dance workshop on Sunday 1 July.
Watch in amazement as Yorkshire Dance Associate dancer Jordan Massarella premieres his new dance piece, Visitors across town. Exploring the relationship between performance and reality the dancers will be used to create incidents for the public to stumble across. Each image is designed to surprise, provoke and stimulate. “Jordan is one of these rare exciting ‘new voices’ in dance; his work is powerfully atmospheric and breathes a real zeitgeist; his choice of music, originality of thought and movement language are intriguing and leave you wanting more.” Wieke Eringa, CEO & Artistic Director of Yorkshire Dance
Lindy Nsingo will be performing her autobiographical piece ‘Self’ which was been specially adapted for an open air performance on the imove mat in the Town Hall courtyard. The festival is also hosting a dance scratch night platforming new dance work from a selection of established international artists and emerging talent curated by DankDance.
For those of you who’d rather do than watch, there are two days of dance workshops run by Dance Lab and a day of Absolute Beginners Dance Workshops covering street, ballroom, zumba and burlesque!
Arts Festival organisers told the HebWeb, ‘We are so delighted to be able to offer up such a diverse programme of dance in this year’s festival and we couldn’t have done it without the support of some of the most exciting purveyors of dance in the region (imove, DankDance, Yorkshire Dance and Spin management). It’s really exciting to be able enter into collaborations like this and we’re hoping it will leave a lasting legacy in the valley.’
