Trades Club near miss - NME small venue of the year award

Friday, 11 May 2012

Trades ClubThe Trades Club have vowed they will be back next year after narrowly missing out on the NME small venue of the year award.

The members run club made the final shortlist as North West club of the year, but despite impressing the judges the top prize went to the Tunbridge Wells Forum

"We think The Trades were the first club to make the shortlist at the first attempt, so although we are disappointed not to win it was always going to be tough given the calibre of the other finalists," said Trades Club Ents Manager Mal Campbell.

"The Trades is grateful to everyone who voted for us, and we will be calling on that support again next year because we are determined to win this award."

Clubs in the competition are judged on a number of factors, including the quality of their bookings, and the Trades have already announced an impressive roster of gigs for the rest of the year.

The highlight is a intimate performance by legendary New York poetess Patti Smith, but other big name bookings include chart toppers Scritti Politti, folk legend Eliza Carthy and the Jim Jones Revue.

"Word is getting out that the Trades is a brilliant place to play because the audience is always incredibly respectful, but also very knowledgeable, which the bands love.

"That's why we are attracting big names that don't normally play venues our size, and in these tough economic times we really appreciate the wonderful support we get from the local community."
