Have your say on canal boost bid
Improvements to the experience for visitors enjoying the Rochdale Canal through Calderdale could be on the way, as regeneration partners put together a bid to the Lottery this month.
Better access, improved visitor facilities, and enhanced signage and interpretation could all be included ? after local people have had the opportunity to say what their priorities are.
Displays and questionnaires will be available at Sowerby Bridge Library and Hebden Bridge Library between 11 and 19 November 2011.
On the following dates, staff from Calderdale Council and Pennine Prospects will be on hand to answer questions and discuss what a successful bid could achieve:
Thursday 17 November 2011 at Hebden Bridge Library, between 9.30am and 7.30pm
Questionnaires are also available at Walsden and Mytholmroyd libraries, or download here.
The aim of the project is to develop the canal into a 'linear park', which is easily accessible along its route, well signed and interpreted, with points of interest along the way where people can rest, meet and learn about their canal.
There would also be greater potential for educational activities.
Calderdale Council, Pennine Prospects, The Waterways Trust and Upper Calder Valley Renaissance are putting together the funding bid to the Heritage Lottery Fund. If the bid is successful, there will be a further round of consultation to produce a more detailed set of proposals for Stage 2.
