Transition TownThe Trades Club and Hebden Bridge Transition Town have joined forces for a free street party next weekend featuring top local bands and DJs.

Holme Street will be closed from 1pm on Saturday (16 July) as the Transition Town team showcase their work creating a sustainable local economy with stalls, films, food and talks.

The Trades has recruited local bands and DJs to add their support as the live music kicks off at 4.30pm with Rockabilly/Americana act Mad Jack & The Hatters.

They're joined by Former Dharma Bums vocalist Johnny Powell who is picking up much praise for his concoction of ambient folk with electronica and found sounds.

DJs Wasist Das? Soundstem, Mal Campbell and Flash Atkins will be spinning discs on Holme Street before an indoor party in the Trades until late.

The weekend opens with a return visit from old friends Jeni and Billy on Thursday, with their love letters to the forgotten coal mining community in Southwest Virginia where Jeni grew up

Their CD Jewell Ridge Coal on top ten lists from LA to New York to Belfast continuing the tradition of the sweetheart duo, winning them new fans hearts with their genuine presence on stage and true to life recordings bearing witness to the simple grace of plain folks.

Local heroes Elms bring their own brand of eclecticism to the Club on Friday with a set of stomping live indie rock guaranteed to fill the dancefloor into the early hours. Special guests are SunnyJim and the Size Nines who deliver fuzzed-up garage rock they say will sock you between the eyes

Ale lovers can finish the weekend with Sunday Lunch and an Extreme Beer Tasting session from 1pm,and there is an opportunity to purchase the beers you like.

"The Trade is delighted to be working with the Transition Town Team on what is becoming an annual event celebrating their achievements in getting the sustainability message out to local residents," Trades Club spokesperson Paul Clarke told the Hebden Bridge Web .

"We're also pleased to welcome back local band The Elms who have spent the last year developing a national reputation as a formidable live act."
