Monday, 18 July 2011

The Friends of the Little Park Community Group invite you to don your finest painting clothes & join us in painting the fence of the playground at Victoria Road!

The group is currently raising funds and working with the council to improve the facilities at the 'Little Park'.

Whatever time you can spare we would love to see you there! Feel free to bring old sheets and brushes for painting!

Come help brighten up our well loved community play area before the newly refurbished train arrives back in early August complete with new safety matting, hurrah! Come and get involved!

Please confirm your attendance via our Friends of the Little ParkFacebook Page or on 01422 847083.

As the majority of people say they like the boat and the train, we plan to keep these pieces of equipment. The train is being lovingly restored by Calderdale Council and should be back in the playground in early August complete with new safety surfacing. Unfortunately we have been informed it is not viable to restore the boat but it will not be going anywhere until we have the funds to replace it as swiftly as possible with a brilliant boat alternative!

Community Payback have been painting the swings and boat and have been preparing the fence for some new colour!

Sometime soon after the train is returned we are planning to have a celebration at the Little Park of the progress to date. Details to follow...

Our present aims with existing funds are to enhance the imaginative play element of the park by adding floor graphics and we think a new springer would be a great addition. To make the area more inviting for families we are planning additional seating, a picnic bench and some more greenery.

Friends of the Little Park are a group of local parents committed to improving facilities at the much loved Victoria Road playground. After forming in October 2010 we carried out extensive consultations with local residents and schools. The feedback was overwhelmingly in support of our project so we set to work applying for funding.

We had originally hoped to be able to fund the whole project with a 'Big Lottery Community Spaces' grant. However we had to review our goals when we were turned down for that piece of funding.

Despite the initial setback we have not lost our enthusiasm. We have been working hard, applying for smaller grants to make gradual improvements to the playground. We were pleased to receive small grants from Hebden Royd Council and Calderdale Council and are being considered for three more.

As the majority of people say they like the boat and the train, we plan to keep these pieces of equipment. We are very grateful to Community Payback for their ongoing help with returning the boat to its former glory and painting the railings and to Bonsals of Hebden Bridge for their kind donation. Also to Calderdale council who are re- building the little train, which we hope to see back in place soon.

We plan to enhance the imaginative play element of the park by adding floor graphics and we think a new springer would be a great addition. To make the area more inviting for families we are planning additional seating, a picnic bench and some more greenery.

We would also like to thank local people for their support and encouragement. As this is an ongoing project we value any suggestions or feedback and can be contacted via our Facebook Page.
