Keighley Road parking - report of meeting of 20 June
Some 30 people attended an informal consultation session last night (Monday, July 20) to see proposals to introduce waiting restrictions along part of Keighley Road, Hebden Bridge.
Calderdale Council is proposing to introduce yellow lines on a stretch of Keighley Road above the White Lion Hotel and below Nutclough, together with more yellow lines further up, above Nutclough.
The proposals follow complaints of congestion caused by parked cars, particularly between the White Lion Inn and the traffic lights at Nutclough.
Some 30 people attended the consultation session at Hebden Bridge Town Hall. It was led by highways engineer, Haydn Vernals, and Calderdale Council Leader and local ward Councillor Janet Battye.
"The response was fantastic" said Cllr Battye.
"It was good to see so many members of the public turn up to have their say ? including several councillors. There seems to be consensus on the need to improve safety and reduce congestion on this stretch of road. I know that we took away a lot of comments and will hear more from other residents.
"The next steps are to put these into shape and move forward with the formal process to get the work done. We then need to monitor its effects"
People who were unable to attend the meeting and have questions or need clarification on any item, should contact Calderdale Council's Traffic Engineer, Haydn Vernals, on 01422 392991or email before Thursday, June 30, or write to the Highways Office, Huddersfield Road, Elland, HX5 9JR before the 11th July 2011.

Keighley Road parking
After considerable discussion on the HebWeb Forum (see thread), people are being asked what they think about Council proposals to introduce waiting restrictions along part of Keighley Road, Hebden Bridge.
The proposals follow complaints of congestion caused by parked cars, particularly between the White Lion Inn and the traffic lights at Nutclough.
Because of the level of local interest, a drop in meeting has been arranged where a plan will be available for inspection. A traffic engineer will be available to discuss the proposal and collect comments. The drop in meeting will take place in the Greenwood Room at the Town Hall in Hebden Bridge on Monday, June 20 between 6.00pm and 6.45pm.
Calderdale Council's Leader, Cllr Janet Battye, says parking congestion is important to local residents.
"We need to create room for larger vehicles to pass with ease.
"At the same time, we need to recognise the need for all day parking on the outskirts of the town centre for people who work in Hebden Bridge. So we need to get the views of everyone concerned before making a decision."
Calderdale Council's Cabinet Member, Economy and Environment, Cllr Barry Collins, says: "As part of Local Transport Plan for 2011/12, funding is available to deal with congestion issues across the borough.
"It is important that this money is spent carefully to address issues of real local concern".
People who can't attend the meeting and have questions or need clarification on any item, should contact Calderdale Council's Traffic Engineer, Haydn Vernals, on 01422 392991or E-mail: haydn.vernals@calderdale.gov.uk before Thursday, June 30, or write to the Highways Office Huddersfield Road, Elland, HX5 9JR
before the 11th July 2011.
