Handmade Parade will be a 'Fabulous Feast'

Handmade Parade fans can now keep up to date with the latest news about the parade through a funky new website, Facebook and Twitter.

Full details of this year’s parade and open workshops as well as videos and photo galleries of previous parades can now be viewed at www.handmadeparade.co.uk

The website features some great graphics inspired by previous parades and there are also links to a host of social network sites including Facebook and Twitter, where the parade has a growing number of fans and followers.

Parade organiser Rebecca Dearden said: “People want to keep in touch with what the parade is up to, and we already have followers from as far afield as South Africa and the USA.

“The new website reflects the cool design, colour and energy of the parade and is the first port of call to find out all about this year’s food-themed parade which is going to be a mouth-watering spectacle.”

The title of this year’s parade, which will take place at 2pm on June 11, is The Fabulous Feast and everyone is being invited to take part by making scrumptious costumes and art including rubbish monsters, grow-your-own vegetables, herb queens, market stall puppet shows and a chicken and egg who really don’t know who came first.

Parade revellers will dance through the streets of Hebden Bridge to Calder Holmes Park for a spectacular finale and picnic in the park with stalls from local food producers.

The open workshops will run from May 24 to June 9. There are sessions on Tuesday, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays for people to make costumes and carryable or wearable art. There will also be stilt-walking, samba and street band sessions and in-depth parade art classes for adults. All materials are provided and there is help on hand from professional artists for those who need a bit of guidance.

Last year, around 400 people came along to the workshops and more than 650 took part in the parade.
