The Trades Club has HX7 Jazz presenting Skein on Thursday 28th April, a Not the Royal Wedding Street Party from 12 Noon in Holme Street and from 7pm in the Trades Club on Friday 29th April - acts are still being confirmed for this but there will be plenty going on.
New folk pioneer Alasdair Roberts is back from his Finnish tour making a welcome return to the Trades Club on Saturday.
Since Alasdair's last visit his last album 'Too Long in This Condition' was released to rave reviews building on the success of his earlier works 'Spoils' and 'The Amber Gatherer.'
Unlike the more commercial new folk artists, Alasdair has concentrated on a mix of traditional songs and his own compositions often influenced by ballads from across Britain.
His stunning guitar work and distinctive vocal style have won him new fans across Europe and he has toured with the likes of Joanna Newsom, Waterson/Carthy, Dick Gaughan and a stint with Eddi Reader doing the songs of Robert Burns.
On this tour he is joined by drummer Shane Connolly, Stevie Jones on upright bass and fiddler Alastair Caplin as he once again looks to expand his own sound.
"The last time Alasdair played the Trades he played solo and it was one of the intense and enthralling gigs of the year," says Trades Club spokesperson Paul Clarke.
"We're all really looking forward to seeing him again working with a full band and he is a welcome antidote to the corporate folk that is doing the rounds at the moment."
