An Evening with Ramzy Baroud
Palestinian-American journalist, author, and former Al-Jazeera producer
Thursday, 10 March 2011
Friends of Palestine are holding an evening with the renowned Palestinian-American journalist, Ramzy Baroud, in the Waterfront Room in Hebden Bridge Town Hall, at 7.00 p.m. on Saturday 12th March.
As part of a UK-wide tour, Ramzy Baroud will introduce his moving memoir My Father Was a Freedom Fighter, which explores the daily lives of the complex human beings - revolutionaries, mothers and fathers, lovers, and comedians - who make Gaza so much more than just a disputed territory. At the heart of this poignant tale is the courageous story of his valiant father, who, driven out of his village to a refugee camp, took up arms to fight the Occupation, while trying to raise a family.
Ramzy will have just arrived from Seattle, so organisers are hoping to give him a warm welcome at the start of his North of England and Scottish speaking tour. The Mayor of Hebden Royd has agreed to be there to welcome him, and we'll start with a bring and share supper, plus some music, so everyone is welcome. Ramzy's latest book, My Father Was a Freedom Fighter will be available at a bargain price, and Manchester PSC will have a stall with lots of beautiful Palestinian crafts, keffiyahs, T shirts etc. on sale too.
