Cutting Carbon in Hebden Bridge

An innovative energy efficiency project is now underway in Hebden Bridge. Local residents in the project areas are receiving comprehensive energy surveys of their properties and advice on how to save energy costs and cut down on carbon emissions.

As part of the wider programme three information meetings have been arranged in Hebden Bridge and are open to all householders in the area.
These will be of interest to those who want to make their homes warmer and reduce their energy bills. The meetings will have the following themes:

Tuesday 1 March: General energy efficiency advice
Hebden Bridge library, 6 ? 8pm
Information and support will be available on changing suppliers, comparing tariffs, payment options, free and low cost energy saving measures and other quick and cheap ways to save money on fuel bills.

Tuesday 8 March: The Green Deal & Energy efficiency solutions for stone built properties
Hebden Bridge library, 6 ? 8pm
Many properties in the Upper Valley are constructed from stone and / or have attic rooms. This means that standard insulation methods are not suitable and as a result many homes remain draughty and expensive to heat. However, solutions do exist - this workshop is designed to make people aware of the different options available. Details of the Government's anticipated Green Deal due to start in 2012 will be of particular interest for people wishing to carry out more expensive energy efficiency measures at no up front cost.

15 March 2011: Renewable Energy and the Clean Energy Cashback
Alternative Technology Centre next to the Canal on Hebble End, Hebden Bridge, 6 ? 8pm.
To encourage the uptake of renewable energy technologies householders can receive payments for the energy they generate, in addition to the savings that they will make by using the energy on site. Feed in Tariffs cover a range of technologies that generate electricity and the forthcoming Renewable Heat Incentive will provide payments for those which generate heat. Advice will be available from planners and local installers.

Councillor Janet Battye, Leader of Calderdale Council says: "This energy efficiency project is really picking up pace now and I am excited about what it can do for Hebden Bridge. I hope lots of residents come along to one of these sessions as they will find out about the different options available and pick up some great money-saving tips."
