Have your say on historic Hebden Bridge
28 November 2010
People are being asked for their views on the Hebden Bridge Conservation Area.
Calderdale Council is holding a public meeting on Thursday 9 December, from 7.30pm to 9pm at Hebden Bridge Town Hall where you can find out more about the future management and preservation of the conservation area and get involved.
The Council is producing a Conservation Area Appraisal which will define the special qualities of the area, looking at its history and development, character and appearance. It will be used when planning applications are being assessed, and will include proposals for preserving and enhancing the conservation area.
As well as the public meeting, there will be drop in sessions with the conservation team at Hebden Bridge Library on:
Wednesday December 8, 1pm to 5pm
Thursday December 9, 10am to 1pm
Saturday December 11, 11am to 2pm.
There will also be an exhibition at Hebden Bridge Library from Wednesday December 8 until Wednesday January 19.
The draft document and maps will be available to view from Wednesday December 8 on the Council's website
As part of the Appraisal process, the boundary of the conservation area is also being reviewed. Some areas currently outside the boundary are being considered for inclusion in an extended conservation area.
Calder Ward Councillor and Leader of the Council, Janet Battye says:
"This review is timely as there have been pressures on building in Hebden Bridge in recent years and the Conservation Area and the appraisal statement are important in setting the scene for the town. Local people, especially the Civic Trust, have already been actively involved with the preparatory work for this ? so now it's time to see where we've got to!"
The Council are also asking people to bring along photos of any interesting features that contribute to the character of the area.
