The latest Calendar Girls style calendar is about to hit the streets
of Hebden Royd after the launch event at the Trades Club on Fri 5th
Nov, this time featuring women in boxing gloves.
The proceeds from the sale of the calendar will go towards sending five local women on a trip to Gleason's Gym in New York where they will be joined by boxers from all over the world for a week's intensive training, culminating in a 'white collar' boxing bout on the final night.
From the cosy confines of the Valley, they will be heading out to the heart of Brooklyn to be put through their paces by the guys who prepared Hilary Swank for her role in Million Dollar Baby. Gleason's popularised women's boxing for fitness in America and their hall of fame includes Muhammad Ali, George Foreman and Mike Tyson.

Regulars at Box 4 Fitness training in Hebden Bridge, the aim of these five women is to bring back knowledge, enthusiasm and publicity for their sport. This in turn will provide inspiration for the first generation of female boxers to have the opportunity to compete in the Olympics in 2012.
