Walk for Wainsgate
Monday, 25 October 2010
On Saturday, 23rd October, 60-70 people walked five miles from the Hare and Hounds in Old Town, over the moors and back again to raise money for the restoration of the magnificent Wordsworth Organ in Wainsgate Chapel. This superb Victorian instrument is in urgent need of repair. The Hare and Hounds, Historic Chapels Trust and Friends of Wainsgate Association were supporting this venture. There are a number of repairs needed, the most urgent of these being to the bellows, which will then enable the organ to be used once again for concerts etc.
There was a minimal charge of ?2.50 per walker. However, many chose to give more so that the afternoon, with raffle, raised ?450. Upon returning to the pub walkers were rewarded with chilli and chips. What better way to spend a Saturday afternoon?
