Calderdale Word of Mouth Festival

Nina Boyd, Jill Liddington and Fleur Adcock are among a host of authors and poets taking part in a packed month of events for Calderdale's Word of Mouth festival.

The third annual Readers' and Writers' Festival will be launched on 1 October and run throughout the month with a wealth of events. There are meet the author sessions, poetry and history events, bookswaps and coffee mornings, poetry performances and story times.

Budding authors can stretch their creative muscles, meet publishers and other writers at the writers' roadshow on Saturday 9 October. Come to the Readers' Day and luxuriate in a full day of book chat and meet some exciting authors. There will be joint poetry events with the Ted Hughes Festival, which runs from October 15 to 17. Visiting authors include Stephen Booth, author of the Cooper & Fry detective series, Calderdale author Linda Green, and poet James Nash.

More highlights include the readers' group pub quiz, nature walks, the Black History month film club and a packed half term of events for children. Follow the crime trail through different events or find out more about Halifax and the slave trade.

There is at least one event at every Calderdale library so whatever you like and wherever you live, there will be something for you.

Councillor Pauline Nash, the Council's Cabinet Member for Safer and Stronger Communities, said: "The Calderdale Word of Mouth Festival is a celebration of writing talent, poetry, creativity, books and reading, as well as a showcase for our outstanding libraries. There will be something for people across the borough with reading, writing and poetry events for all ages and tastes."
