Hebden 500 — Twin towns present birthday gifts
Sunday, 13 June 2010
Visitors from Hebden Bridge’s twin towns have presented local people with birthday gifts to mark the 500th anniversary of the packhorse bridge.
Guests from Warstein in Germany brought with them 500 messages of good will, which were hung over the bridge, and visitors from St Pol in France presented the town with a permanent planting display. This blooming birthday present was planted in the memorial gardens by apprentices from Calderdale Council as part of ongoing improvements there.
In return, the mayor, Robin Dixon, presented both twin towns with ceramic replicas of the bridge, created by Mytholmroyd-based David Constantine White of Brier Hey Pottery.
The visits by Warstein and St Pol are part of the HB500 celebrations going on throughout 2010.
