Interim Executive Board (IEB) to run the school. Governors may be invited back in a year’s time

Calderdale Council and governors have received government backing in their attempts to improve the way in which a Hebden Bridge primary school is run.

The Council and governors of Stubbings Primary recently agreed to the appointment of an Interim Executive Board (IEB) to help run the school. This week, the proposal received the approval of the Department for Children, Schools and Families.

The new Board will work alongside the Council to resolve difficulties which were first highlighted in an Ofsted inspection in February last year. Since then, schools improvement officers from the Council have been working with the governing body and have agreed that the best course of action will be an IEB.

All governors at a recent meeting supported the proposal. The local authority has supported the governing body and together Calderdale say they are are committed to improve the situation at the school for the benefit of all the children.

The new IEB will be set up for 12 months with a review after that time. After a positive review, the governors would be invited back to take up their normal duties working alongside IEB members for a handover period.
Some of the school’s existing governing body will serve on the new IEB.
Calderdale Council’s Director of Children and Young People’s Services, Janet Donaldson, says it’s time to bring stability to Stubbings.

“I am pleased that the Council and governors have agreed to the IEB, and that the DCSF have agreed to this. We can now work together to move forward and address the issues which were highlighted by the inspectors.”
