Election debate in Hipperholme:

There will be a public meeting with the Parliamentary candidates for the Calder Valley constituency on Tuesday 2nd February 2010 at 7.30 p.m. at Lightcliffe C. of E. Primary School.
Jason Elliott tried to organise a similar debate in Hebden Bridge but Steph Booth, the Labour candidate, pulled out.
Jason has now written on the Hebweb Forum "I have gone ahead and ordered a 55 seater coach to take people, at no charge, from outside Ken's Kabin, opposite Hebden Bridge Memorial Gardens, to and from the debate. The bus will leave at 6.30pm and, if anyone would like a seat, they will need to e-mail me with COACH as the subject line and the names and contact numbers of those people they want seats for.
The meeting is being organised by Churches Together in Hipperholme and Lightcliffe which brings together the Christchurch URC/Methodist joint congregation at Hipperholme and the two Church of England parishes of St. John the Baptist, Coley and St. Matthew, Lightcliffe.
Calder Valley is a very marginal seat which means that every vote cast will make a difference to the outcome. All the main parties know how important Calder Valley will be to their chances of forming the next Government. This public meeting is the voters’ chance to question the candidates in person in advance of the General Election. It will be chaired by the Rev. Patrick Taylor of Christchurch, Hipperholme.
Voters are invited to submit questions before the meeting (see details below). We ask that the questions be addressed to all the candidates and be concerned with policies and issues rather than personalities. At the meeting the chairman will put the points raised in the questions about each issue to the candidates and, once they have responded, invite further questions and comments from the audience. We want to encourage as much debate and discussion as possible.
