Cancellation of Parliamentary Candidates’ Debate
Tuesday, 12 January 2010
The Upper Calder Valley Candidates Debate, due to take place at Riverside School in Hebden Bridge on January 30th has had to be cancelled.
Organiser, local businesman Jason Elliot told the Hebden Bridge Web,
Initially, in late November, all candidates had agreed on this date but Matt Baker, a spokesman for Labour candidate, Steph Booth, contacted the organisers on December 29th to say she now had an undisclosed personal engagement on January 30th and would be unable to attend.
Attempts to find an alternative date acceptable to Ms Booth and the other candidates have ended in failure, resulting in the cancellation of the event.
The Hebden Bridge Web has previously reported at the end of Novemebr: Craig Whittaker from the Conservatives, Steph Booth from Labour, Hilary Myers from the Lib Dems, and Kate Sweeny from the Green Party will all be in the hall at Riverside School on Saturday afternoon (2pm), 30th January. They will be there to participate in a ‘Question Time’ style debate, chaired by Jason Elliott.
