Lives Remembered
Mary-Joan Courtney
12/3/1940 – 1/10/2022
From Sarah Courtney: Sadly Mary-Joan recently died very peacefully.
She was an artist and writer. She was a valued member of Calder Valley Voices Choir and artistic communities in Hebden Bridge and Todmorden.
Mary-Joan was the loved and loving mum of Sarah, Wrolf and Jeremy (deceased); sister of Ronnie; Grandma/Gram-J of Jeremy, Kita, Ben, Freda and Jude; mum-in-law of Tamsin; proud aunt of Nicola and Robin; great aunt to Oliver, Eleanor, Amelia, Louis and Carmen; and friend to many.
Her funeral will be held on Thursday 20th October. Everyone who cared about her is welcome to all or any part of the day. Please arrive at Hebden Bridge Town Hall for 10.30am when there will be an opportunity to tie messages to Mary-Joan's coffin. At 11am there will be a Quaker funeral service to which everyone, of all faiths and none, is welcome. Quaker Friends encourage anyone that feels moved to contribute thoughts and memories. Afterwards we'll share refreshments. In the spirit of the choir and Quaker meetings feel free to bring cake to share. At 3.45pm there will be a service at Park Wood Crematorium to which everyone is also invited.
Mary-Joan loved bright colours so please do not feel that you have to wear black. Family flowers only please. If you would like to make a donation in Mary-Joan's memory please make it for the mental health charity Calderdale Healthy Minds. There will be a donations box at the Town Hall.
