Lives Remembered
Erika Bowker
1925-2022
Born in Germany, in Bunzlau, now part of Poland, Erika Bowker settled in the Calder Valley in the late 1940s after fleeing from Russian occupation. Erica taught people with learning difficulties, was a former Hebden Royd Town Councillor and regularly involved in community activities.
See this fascinating interview she gave to Wild Rose Arts about her life history
From George Murphy
Erika was a valued member of Shaggy Dog Storytellers and loved Hebden Bridge. I loved the interview. 7 July 2022

I lived opposite Mrs & Mrs Bowker for 20yrs or so, I've only just seen she passed away. Quite sad as I have fond memories of her, looked after her scary ginger cat when they went on holiday and they brought me a Model Omnibus back.
They also took me to Worth Valley Railway along with some of her relatives who were over visiting. I walked up Blenheim Street a few weeks ago for the 1st time in too many years
I saw there was a Skip outside her house and thought she may have moved to sheltered accommodation. Sadly I'm well behind the times.
But it was a pleasure to have known her
RIP Mrs Bowker
