Lives Remembered - Christine Gudgin
(previously West nee O'Brien)

Christine died suddenly on Friday 28 February. She was the daughter of the late Christopher O'Brien (Local Councillor in the 1970's and 1980s and Mayor in the 1980s) and Sheila O'Brien. She was a teacher to children and adults in Bradford, Shipley, Keighley and Haworth.

Christine, like her parents, was very active in the community, supporting many local causes. She was a crisis volunteer for the Samaritans for many years and was a Mensa examiner locally too. Christine organised trips and activities for groups of children and young people and helped many families whose children needed that bit more support to face exams, providing private tuition, stamp clubs in school and many other activities.

She gave her time to renovating the Trades Club in the late 1970s and early 1980s and has been a strong supporter of the Hebden Bridge Town Hall since the charity was formed. Christine grew up at Dodnaze and attended Stubbings School in the 1950s.

Her surviving family and friends are among many who will reflect with gratitude on her long life of service. She will be very sadly missed in this valley and the Aire Valley.
