People on the Move
From Ms. P. Finch
Saturday 24 August 2024
I've just picked up a hitchhiker in Bacup who was aiming to get to Scarborough.
The gentleman was in his 60s, had come from Cardiff and said his wife was travelling too - but had accepted a separate lift earlier.
He wanted to meet up with her in Halifax. Unsurprisingly, he said he wished he'd never set off. They had been sleeping rough.
What is shocking is the fact that so many traumatised people are on the move, even in older years and without adequate means to do so.
It speaks volumes re the social collapse in society.
So many homeless people are visibly in need including in rural communities.
This new government has mountains to climb. Hopefully it will take more social responsibility than the last.
I wish the man and his wife well and hope they do find some peace wherever that may be.
