Today, I found out that a local grocery store chain now forbids in-store employees from wearing protective face masks during this time of COVID-19 pandemic. This policy appears to be meant to give the public a sense of normalcy, to indicate employees are not sick, and to avert further public panic.

Most who contract the COVID-19 are asymptomatic, but the virus can still be spread by those who appear to be healthy, even though far more so by those who have symptoms. Sadly, there aren’t enough tests for those who aresymptomatic but who cannot identify a specific source of exposure, let alone for those who appear to be just fine.

In my opinion, keeping grocery stores open with healthy employees is nearly as important as keeping health care professionals healthy. Therefore protecting grocery employees is just as important.
