Does anyone have any i nformation about an outbreak of food poisoning centred on Mytholmroyd and caused by raw milk? I believe there was several deaths. I think it occurred in the 1950s. I read about it many years ago, but can't find any references now.

Best bet is probably the Local Studies department of the Central Library in Halifax.

A correspondent informs me that the incident may have occurred in the late 1970s.
Thanks for the tip, Graham. I went to the central library this morning and read the Medical Officer of Health for Hebden Royd's reports from 1939 to 1972. No luck on my query, but what a fascinating read! So uplifting to learn how health, welfare, housing and sanitation in the area steadily improved over the years. After ten years of this doctrinaire austerity things are slipping back, I'm afraid.
