You point out on the news article on the main page surrounding the local elections that the current deputy Mayor Stephne Harrison of the Liberal Democrats has been defeated hence the need to find a new Mayor for the coming year. 

My neighbour tells me this has happened before, the last 3 times in fact when the general town council elections have taken place (every 4 years). Is this true? Can anyone verify? He calls it the “Curse of the Mayor”.

If indeed true, it must be a poison chalice to be the deputy in the year leading up. Frivolous I know, but an interesting little bit of a local curio if correct.
