Housing Repairs

From John Hartley

Tuesday, 14 June 2016

I have just been on the phone to Pennine Housing after an elderly gentleman we look after reported to us that his toilet seat had come off, due to the bolts breaking.

We were asking to get it repaired. We were stunned to hear that these kind of repairs are no longer covered by the tenancy agreement he signed when he moved over 40 years ago.

If this 74 year old gentleman wants this repair doing it will now cost him £42.50. Makes me wonder what else is no longer covered.

My understanding of Pennine's policy is that they are responsible for repairs due to "normal wear and tear", but not repairs due to "neglect, abuse or misuse" - quotes from their website.

This sounds to me like a case of the former, and Pennine should be pressed to carry out a repair.

If you don't have any success, try contacting CAB or Shelter. Let us know how you get on.
