The houses on High Street were, I believe, dropped into their foundations without taking the timbers out. The ground could therefore be pretty unstable, the banking the opposite side of Heptonstall Rd from there, another demolition site, tumbled down the hillside not long ago. Please be a bit cautious when you do your digging!
