Sudden Oak Death

On the 11th Nov Calderdale Council issued a press release about the occurence of the disease 'Sudden Oak Death' found at Shibden Park, Halifax
One of the main hosts for this disease is Rhododendron, which is the plant they have been cutting and burning at Shibden over the last 12 months. This disease has so far been found mainly in the South East and so it is a worry to find it on our doorstep.
There was a report tonight on Look North BBC1 about the Shibden outbreak. Burning affected material is the only way to help prevent the spores entering our native trees.
