Local girl achieves first boxing award Tuesday, 24 March 2009
Local girl Toni Greenwood was the first female to receive her Amateur Boxing Association, Preliminary Boxing Award last week from Hebden Bridge based tutor, Kate Dakers of Box 4 Fitness. Toni took up boxing at the beginning of the year and plans to get into the ring to fight competitively towards the end of 2009 once she’s completed all 5 Awards. “I really enjoy boxing, it’s boosted my confidence and I feel much fitter and healthier in myself. I’m looking forward to my first bout and will be working hard on my fitness levels and technique between now and then” said Toni. The awards provide a fun recreational programme for participants, irrespective of age, gender or level of ability. The preliminary award is designed to promote a fit and healthy lifestyle with increased self esteem and confidence. There is no contact involved in the first three boxing awards, however, after progressing to the silver and gold awards, participants will be required to undergo a boxing medical and all conditioned sparring must be conducted in a ring by an ABAE qualified coach.
