A concert to raise money for UNICEF's work in southern Lebanon and Gaza is being held at Marshall's Bar, Carlton Street, Hebden Bridge on Saturday November 4th from 8pm until late. Music will be provided by Sambangra and local DJs. Sambangra's Afro-Brazilian/Asian drum dance fusion has been heard at major festivals and events such as Manchester Pride and the Commonwealth Games.

"I'm delighted the landlord John Taylor has let Marshalls be used for this event on what is traditionally such a busy night in the town," said organiser Liz Sykes, "and it's especially exciting that Sambangra have agreed to play, their members include musicians who have played with Lee 'Scratch' Perry, Sir Elton John, Moby, Fun Lovin' Criminals, Lemn Sissay, Nitin Sawhney, and Jah Wobble.

The event is being supported by Hebden Royd Town Councillor Stewart Brown who said: "It's a lot of effort but every £ raised counts and will help make a real difference to someone's life. UNICEF is not only helping to address health needs, but also educating people about the danger of the unexploded munitions in Lebanon that could take years to clear as well as helping get 400,000 children back to school - many Lebanese schools were destroyed in the conflict besides hundreds in need of cleansing and repair. UNICEF's ongoing work in the violent environment of Gaza is likewise essential for the health, safety and well-being of children there."
