Strange worlds caught by torchlight or headlights are revealed in an exhibition of photoworks this month.

The Other Night – at the Arts Festival Gallery on Albert Street – showcases the work of Hebden-based artist Rebecca Dearden.

In her pictures, light spills, flares and reflects back on itself, becoming the subject of the photograph as well as the means by which the images are made.

Her photographs describe the unintended effect of artificial light; the accidental objects caught in its path – something that has a resonance within photography, where what is seen by the photographer may not be what appears in the final image, or what appears to the viewer.

“I often work with light as my subject,” she says. “I’m interested in the idea of a no-man’s land between the extremes of dark and light and the process of moving from one state to another.”

The Other Night runs from Thursday, October 26 to Sunday, October 29. Some of the work from the exhibition is also available to view at www.elsewise.co.uk.
