Doris dishes out her last musical feast

Doris and the Dinner Ladies, who have wowed audiences at the Hebden Bridge Arts Festival for the last nine years, have announced this year will be their last ever gig.

Doris, backed by the Bloody Big Soul Band, will make her exit from live performance after the June 30 event at the Hebden Bridge Picture House.

According to the band’s musical director and founder Dave Nelson, it was time to move on to new projects.

"The band started because of the Arts Festival and we’ve now got to our 10th year," he said. "We want to go out on a high, while the band is still incredibly popular."

In fact, previous years had been so popular that dancing in the venue had to be restricted. This year, though, as a fitting send-off for Doris, normal boogying service has been resumed.

The gig opens more than a fortnight of music, theatre, literature events, art, street entertainment and workshops which is the Hebden Bridge Arts Festival

More information and booking forms are available from the festival office on Albert Street, Hebden Bridge or by calling 01422 842684.

The full festival programme is available from May 15 and will also be found online at www.hebdenbridge.co.uk/festival.
