Hebden Bridge Nurseryman wins silver medal
in first attempt at Harrogate Spring Flower Show

Local nurseryman Michael Mitchell, owner of Slack Top Nursery & Garden in Hebden Bridge, is thrilled to have won a coveted silver medal for his first display of alpine and woodland plants at the 2006 Harrogate Spring Flower Show.

Michael is one of the UK’s top 10 specialist growers of alpine and woodland plants, and exhibited a 15x5 foot display showing how versatile alpine and woodland plants can be in both contemporary and traditional containers.

Michael has told the Hebden Bridge Web, "It is really fantastic to receive a silver medal for our first exhibit at Harrogate Show, and we are chuffed to bits to have our efforts recognised for growing strong plants - the from popular woodland favourites such as native primroses and wood anemones, through to some of the more unusual specimen plants".

He adds "At 900ft up in the Pennines, the tough climate means tough plants. If they grow with us, they’ll grow anywhere, so local gardeners can be sure that they are buying plants that are hardy, and have been grown outside rather than cosseted under glass which often results in soft sappy growth".

Michael started the nursery almost 20 years ago on leaving Askham Bryan Horticultural College.

Slack Top Nursery and Garden is open to the public Wednesdays to Sundays (and Bank Holiday Mondays) from 10.00am until 5pm, from 1 March to 30 September.
