Freedom to Roam Guides

Andrew Bibby is an experienced author and freelance journalist whose outdoor writing has appeared in The Rambler, Rambling Today, and The Great Outdoors. The publishers, Frances Lincoln have teamed up with the Ramblers' Association to produce a ground-breaking series of handy-sized guides to areas newly opened up to walkers by the Right to Roam legislation now coming into effect. Areas that would not be open to our community even just a few months ago.

There are currently five guides, the South Pennines one covering our area. Each guide has includes:
  • An introduction to the area: its landscape, history and wildlife
  • At least 12 walks, graded for difficulty, that allow walkers to choose their own route
  • 4-colour Ordnance Survey map for each walk
  • Special features on points of interest chosen to add to walkers' enjoyment of the countryside
  • Practical information for visitors
  • Information on public rights of access
