Local women and children receive boxing awards Tuesday, 21 April 2009 15 local women and children received their Preliminary Boxing Award this weekend from Hebden Bridge based Boxing Tutor, Kate Dakers. Having completed their 8 week course, they had a one hour's assessment on Saturday covering footwork, stance, punching and defenses. It included a session of shadow boxing which the children said they found most difficult but they all passed with flying colours and proudly walked away with Amateur Boxing Association certificates and medals for their efforts. For the senior female participants, it brought together everything they've learned over their first 8 week course. Technique, speed, individual flair and fitness levels were tested and all 6 women passed their Preliminary Boxing Award. ''It's great to see women and kids enjoying the benefits of boxing at this level. Some of them are making healthier choices as a result of being involved in the Awards programme and their fitness levels and confidence are increasing'' course tutor, Kate Dakers told the Hebden Bridge Web. The next Level 1 (Preliminary) and 2 (Standard) courses for women and children start on Saturday May 09 at Hope Baptist Church. There are limited places due to the size of the venue so booking is essential. See www.box4fitness.co.uk for more details.
