Acting out at Violence Against Women

Great news emerged for the White Ribbon Campaign as local boys Jonny Dixon and James Varley have become the newest White Ribbon Ambassadors.  Both lads are in the acting profession and run a drama workshop at Calderdale College in Halifax, West Yorkshire.  Alongside this they have given their time to become spokespeople for the Hebden Bridge based, national charity. 

“We think it's a great organization for a great cause. We don't often have as much time as we want to do charity work but we saw this as a great opportunity to get our hands dirty or our heels in this case. One of the key factors that appealed to us was the fact that your organization is run by men. That alone stands out without even talking about the charity. We are really looking forward to making fools of ourselves and hopefully raising as much money as we are fun.” (Jonny Dixon and James Varley)

”The workshops that we are looking to do are based on going around schools and giving them the opportunity to experience different techniques of acting with established actors. This is still in the pre production stages we are hoping to get it off the ground asap.” Jonny Dixon and James Varley)

The charity focuses on ending male violence against women through primary prevention by engaging men and boys.  “We are thrilled to have the boys as ambassadors for the White Ribbon Campaign. As we are an educational charity, it’s brilliant to have young celebrities working with us to help engage other young people.” said Emma Worsley from the White Ribbon Campaign.

Dixon, who plays Darryl Morton in Coronation Street after appearing in 44 episodes of Grange Hill will be taking part in ‘These Heels Are Made For Walking’ with fellow actor Varley who has appeared in shows including Casualty, Doctors, Survivors and alongside his pal Jonny Dixon in Corrie.  They will join Frank Watene and other members of Halifax Rugby League, and any other brave locals, who are willing to wobble their way around Hebden Bridge to raise money and awareness for the charity.
