Alternative Technology Centre helps Calderdale with Light-bulb Amnesty Events in Halifax and Hebden Bridge Library

Find out more from the experts of the advantages of the new energy saving bulbs and the differences they can make to your electric bills.

Calderdale Council’s Housing Energy Action Team is joining forces with the Alternative Technology Centre for Energy from Hebden Bridge to help provide more information about energy saving light bulbs.

Bring in four old style light bulbs to the Doorways Centre, Woolshops, Halifax (next to the Piece Hall) on Thursday 15 October between 10am and 4pm and have them replaced free of charge with 4 free energy saving bulbs.

Councillor Amanda Byrne, Portfolio Holder for Economy and Enterprise; “This is a great opportunity for Calderdale residents to get more information about energy efficiency and a chance to get hold of energy efficiency light bulbs which are great for the environment and keeping your bills low.”

Polly Webber from the Alternative Technology Centre added “An average house has about 10 - 15 lights and if these use old fashioned incandescent bulbs, this is the same as having one bar of an electric fire on. Replacing these with low energy bulbs will save an astonishing amount of money. Technology has improved on low energy light bulbs and modern bulbs do not have the disadvantages of some of the earlier ones..”

Other information that will be available at the event includes;

• details of free and discounted insulation and heating schemes available in Calderdale
• free energy saving monitors for households receiving benefits
• impartial energy saving advice to help save money on your energy bills
  

Similar events are also being planned across Calderdale. Residents in Todmorden who are having seasonal flu jabs on Saturday 10th of October at the new health centre on Halifax Road can also get some free energy saving light bulbs and find out more about schemes to make their homes cheaper to heat. Residents can also call into the Customer First Offices at the Brighouse Civic Centre, Hebden Bridge library and Todmorden Community College during Energy Saving Week which runs from 19th – 23rd October to pick up their free energy bulbs and find out how they can make their homes more energy efficient.

If you can’t make it to any of the above events you are more than welcome to call into the Doorways Centre in Halifax any time Monday to Friday 9am – 5pm and on Saturday mornings from 9am – 1pm for free light bulbs and more information about energy efficiency and other housing related services.
