HB Partnership to give platform to 20 local community organisations

Hebden Bridge's active community life under the spotlight

A whistle-stop tour of community life in Hebden Bridge is promised next Monday (Oct 5th) when more then twenty local organisations will be talking about their activities and plans. The public event, to be held in the upstairs room of the White Lion hotel, is being organised by the Hebden Bridge Partnership, the ‘umbrella’ group for the voluntary sector in the town.

“We are repeating once again what we organised for the first time last year, and which received very favourable comments at the time. We want to offer a platform to review the many different aspects of community life, for groups to publicise their own activities, and also to hear what other groups locally are doing. This will be an opportunity to network with others, and even to find potential new volunteers,” Andrew Bibby, secretary of the Partnership told the Hebden Bridge Web.

In order to make the evening manageable, each group is limited to three minutes, with a kitchen timer pressed into service to ensure that nobody overruns their allotted time. So far, presentations have been promised from a wide cross-section of community life, ranging from the Junior Band to Treesponsibility, and from Hebden Bridge Youth Theatre to the Local History Society. Other organisations wishing to claim their three-minute slot are invited to introduce themselves to the Partnership’s chair David Fletcher at the start of the proceedings.

The event follows immediately after the short formal AGM of the Partnership, which will also be an opportunity to elect new representatives to the Partnership’s management board. Places are available for representatives of environmental groups, sporting groups, children’s and young people’s organisations or schools, and local business interests.

“Monday’s meeting will, we’re sure, be a positive celebration of Hebden Bridge’s strong community life, and we’re very pleased so many groups have already said they are participating,” Andrew Bibby adds. The meeting will begin at 7pm, and is due to finish at 9pm.
