Forthcoming Hebden Fringe Festival Events Friday, 3 July 2009 Holme Street Co-operative Creative Adventures – A range of workshops and events will be held in The Holme Street Arts Centre over the weekend. There will be fun events suitable for families, children and well-behaved grown-ups, designed to unleash your creativity and artistic side. Saturday 4th/Sunday 5th July 10am–3.30 pm; Holme Street Arts Centre Didjeridoo Workshop – For those who want to get started with, or become more practised at playing this intriguing Australian instrument, Andy Wood will be running a workshop which promises to be lively, friendly and full of aboriginal sound. Saturday 4th July 4–6pm; Holme Street Arts Centre Chicken Soup for the Living Dead – Expert storytellers and spine-tinglers, Tom Croft and The Reverend Peter Findlay invite you to an evening of chilling tales in the beautiful but haunting setting of an old chapel up on the lonely hilltops. Guaranteed to freeze the blood and set your teeth a-chattering. Expect tales of grave robbery, urban legends of footsteps on the landing, and a good dose of spilt claret as your hosts pick over the bones (and innards, eyeballs and guts) of things that do a lot more than just go bump in the night. £4/£3. Saturday 4th July 2009; Wainsgate Chapel, Old Town, HX7 8SU. Doors 7.30pm, Stories 8pm. Adults only. No parking at chapel so please leave cars at Old Town Mill Lane, walk up or catch the bus. Write Out Loud/Commonword’s Superheroes of Slam – Come and see some of the region’s best poets fight it out in a competitive arena to claim the crown of champion rhymester. This is Heat 2 of this event which culminates in a grand final to be held at the Frog & Bucket, Manchester on 21st October 2009. The winner of the final will get a super cash prize and be awarded The Dike Omeje Trophy. If you think you can cut it in this exalted company then there is still time to enter via www.writeoutloud.net. If you want to see and hear some great performance poetry and smell the evocative odour of nervous, expectant bards then come along and watch, all for the tiny sum of £1. Sunday 5th July 6pm prompt! Hole in T’Wall pub. La Puta –Fringism – Come along and shake your booty at a special edition of Hebden’s regular dance night. There will be the usual eclectic mix of funky tunes, a live drawing projection (bring your artistic hands along).
