Nutclough Woods is the latest project in Hebden Bridge to receive support from O2’s It’s Your Community programme. The improvement to the woods is was assisted by a team of volunteers from O2. The volunteers are part of O2’s It’s Your Community Programme which is set up to provide communities with volunteers and cash awards to drive small changes that can make a big difference.

Nutclough

Nutclough Woods is five-ten minutes walk from the centre of Hebden Bridge and is looked after and used by Friends of Nutclough Woods.  It offers a tranquil haven to locals and wildlife alike.  But the woodland needs some management to ensure it remains a haven.

Kate Berridge (above left) of the Friends of Nutclough Woods explains: ‘To ensure that people and wildlife coexist in Nutclough Woods we have to manage it. We are completely reliant on volunteers to ensure Nutclough remains a beautiful, natural place.’ She continued, ‘So I would like to thank Jana and her team from O2 in Leeds for their support and time.’

Nutclough

‘Nutclough Woods is a very special place’ said Jana Leitnerova of O2, ‘My team and I are so glad that we could help. O2’s It’s Your Community programme was set up to help communities at the grass roots level – and Kate and her team here at Nutclough are just that – they get out there and make a huge difference – I am glad that we could help, even if only in just a small way.’

Awards from £100 to £1,000 are available for ideas which benefit the community or build community spirit. Past ‘Green and Clean’ projects to receive It’s Your Community funding include supporting community gardens, woodlands, beaches and paths and improving public access to river banks and green spaces. The programme has now given £1.4 million to over 1,600 community projects across the UK.
