Solstice with Cider The 2nd International Cider Festival at the Stubbing Wharf Hebden Bridge will be hosting its 2nd International Cider Festival at the Stubbing Wharf, on the Summer Solstice weekend of 21st to 22nd June, with a special preview on the Friday evening. After a very successful 'first fest' last year, this is an event for all to join in and discover the rich and interesting heritage and flavours of this tasty traditional drink. This year will see a range of over 40 different ciders available over the weekend, including some of the best from around the world. “Our French Cider Bar will be there with both bottled and draft ciders –that will be unique to the Stubbing”, Phil Kennedy, who helps organise this unique festival, has told the Hebden Bridge Web. This year’s plans include importing cider from Spain and the New World to add to the international selection. There will be more entertainment too with the Town Jester performing as well as magicians and musicians. There will be a special appearance by the Ryburn Long-Sword dancers, to match another tradition with some of the best ciders made in Britain today. “A local hog will be roasted again, with plenty of apple sauce and sausage too. Matt the Chef is also preparing a special apple-themed menu for the weekend.” But an apple doesn’t have to be alcoholic to be enjoyed; there will be a range of apple juices available and even apple ice cream. Canal boat trips, apple bobbing and other competitions will all be available to make the weekend go with a swing for all the family. The Stubbing Wharf is idyllically situated on the old wharf, between the Calder and the Rochdale Canal, to the west side of the town, the Stubbing Wharf is easily accessible from town, the railway station or via the Rochdale Canal towpath by foot, or there is ample parking and a good bus service.
