MP demands meeting with
First Bus over Eaves service
Friday, 18 April 2008
Local MP Chris McCafferty is to meet with the managing director of First Bus, Alan Pilbeam, to discuss her concerns about the sudden cancellation of the mini-bus service to Eaves.
The service was stopped in March because of safety concerns regarding the turning arrangements at Eaves, leaving people who live in the steep area of Hebden with a walk of almost half a mile down to Mytholm to catch a bus.
Chris told the Hebden Bridge Web, “Labour councillors campaigned hard to persuade Metro to provide this service, so I was very concerned when it was suddenly cancelled.
“I understand the safety concerns, but believe that everything possible must be done to find a way forward. So I am meeting with First so that I can put my concerns to them directly.
“I have also raised the issue with Metro, and understand that a site meeting will be taking place shortly involving Metro and officers from the local council, to see if a safe solution can be found to restore the bus service as quickly as possible.
“Eaves is a very steep part of Hebden Bridge, and I am very concerned that older people have been left without a bus service.”
