Reggae sunshine at Trades Wednesday, 10 December 2008 After weeks without the sun and ice still thick on the ground the Trades Club is hosting a weekend of Caribbean sunshine to brighten up spirits along the Calder Valley. The Trades Reggae Weekend kicks off Thursday December 18th with a live show from Zion Train who have been called the world’s premier dub act and the band have had a strong festival season with their unique brand of ‘ bouncy acid dub’. Zion Train are completing a 21 nation, 100 date tour to promote their new album ‘Live as One’ and promise plenty of onstage dub mixing as part of their live show. The weekend’s fun continues the next night with Chapter Four DJs Daddytone, Dillinger P and Slackears headlining what is now widely acknowledged as the best reggae night in West Yorkshire and they’re promising their usual mix of heavyweights roots and rocksteady beats. Nucleus Roots round off the mini-festival on Saturday headlining the ever-popular Mental Elf event which is also celebrating the upcoming Winter Solstice marking the rebirth of the sun. Nucleus Roots combine a potent mix of live instruments, a heavyweight sound system and a positive message of love, peace and harmony. “It seems like weeks since we last saw the sun in Hebden which has been made worse by the recent cold snap so this seemed the perfect time to have a reggae weekend to bring some much needed Caribbean sunshine into our lives,” Trades Club committee member Paul Clarke told the Hebden Bridge Web. “Reggae has always been hugely popular at the club and we’ve managed to secure some the best live dub acts in the world to join us for a special end of year reggae sunsplash party.” Special weekend tickets for all three events are priced £20 for non-members and £15 for members and are available on the door or from the club on 01422 845265 or boxoffice@tradesclub.info.
