CLEAN UP THOSE GROT SPOTS

Hebden Royd Town Council working with the Community Safety Partnership is offering residents' groups the chance to clear up 'grot spots' close to where they live. The scheme aims to allow residents to attack unkempt areas that nobody cares about by providing bags, groves and a skip to remove the waste from the site.

Jason Boom, Environmental Community Warden for Hebden Royd said 'for the last 6 years we've been working with residents to make Hebden Royd a cleaner, greener and safer place in which to live and work. It is clear to see that we have made real improvements in the environmental quality where residents have helped us and we're looking for new groups to join us and expand the programme'

Scout Road Residents

The scheme started last Saturday with Scout Road Community Association clearing the playing fields they have recently taken ownership of and are looking to develop. Removing broken glass, rotting timbers and remnants of fly tipping 6 residents along with Jason cleared the area.

Gayle Appleyard who leads the group said 'these resources from HRTC and the Safer Communities Partnership kicked started our clean up. We all knew the dangers of the site but were uncertain how to clear it. We were concerned that children could be hurt and as it such a well used site we really needed to act, and this helped us achieve our goal in double quick time.'

'On the weekend of the 6th and 7th December we'll be out and about with skips on Dodnaze, Windsor Road, Eaves Estate and Fairfield Estates in Hebden Bridge and the Banksfield and Nest Estates in Mytholmroyd but would like to hear from any other groups in Hebden Royd who would like to take advantage of this scheme' added Jason.
