NEW STATION CAR PARK Update: Friday, 26 September 2008 As announced on 8th September (see below) work will begin on Monday 6th October with sapling removal and tree pruning on the site, one mature tree to allow improvements to the walkway from the train station into Calder Holmes Park. This important work forms the majority of week one. Environmental Community Warden Jason Boom has told the Hebden Bridge Web, 'The poor quality of these trees mean they have very limited value to the amenity and wildlife of the site. Their removal and management of others will ensure the remaining are strong and healthy' This will then be followed by seven weeks of work on the site and on Station Rd to prepare the car park for opening. The site, owned by Hebden Royd Town Council, will be managed by Calderdale MBC and will provide 29 new long stay car parking spaces with lighting and security fencing. The car park will operate on a pay and display basis with charges levied being 20p per hour for up to 4 hours 8.00am to 6.00pm all days of the week, with stays over 4 hours being charged at a blanket £1. As part of the works it is expected that Station Road will need to be closed for one day and this is planned for a Sunday, with this date still to be confirmed. Monday, 8 September 2008 Construction work is programmed to start on Monday, 6 October to introduce a new 29 space public car park for Hebden Bridge. It is anticipated the car park will be complete and open for public use by the end of November. Land off Station Road (which leads to the Railway Station) in Hebden Royd Town Council's ownership will be used, in a joint initiative with Calderdale Council whose Parking Services team will operate. The car park will feature tarmac surfacing, street lighting, security fence surround, entrance height barrier and will also include resurfacing the adjacent footpath leading to Calder Holmes park. A limited number of small trees will be removed to the boundary adjoining the adjacent gas station site and a mature tree will be removed in order to better realign the footpath as it enters the park. The car park will operate on a pay and display basis with charges levied being 20p per hour for up to 4 hours 8.00am to 6.00pm all days of the week, with stays over 4 hours being charged at a blanket £1. Calderdale Council's Cabinet Member, Regeneration and Development, Cllr David Kirton, said: "This new car park should contribute to relieving the recognised pressure of Hebden Bridges parking needs."
