ADOPT A FOOTPATH Wednesday, 8 August 2007 Calderdale has around 1300 kilometres of paths and bridleways - many more than most local authorities. Many of these are in the Hebden Bridge region. Hebden Bridge Walkers Action (HBWA) is looking for volunteers to help identify, maintain and report problems connected with our local paths. Volunteers would be people who like walking in the beautiful countryside around Hebden Bridge and who want to take a particular interest in some of our footpaths and bridleways, checking to make sure that they remain easy to follow. Such people are encouraged to join their Adopt-a-Path project. The local rights of way network has been dividied up into the 1km grid squares which are shown (in light blue) on Ordnance Survey maps. There are twenty-five such grid squares in the area directly around Hebden Bridge, and HBWA hope that every one of these will find its own ‘adopter’. Already, two out of three of the available squares have been adopted. Adopters to date include the Mayor of Hebden Royd, Nader Fekri, the Chair of Heptonstall Parish Council, John Dunford and Friendly & District Rotary Club. In due course, HBWA plan to extend the Adopt-a-Path project to include Mytholmroyd, Cragg Vale and Blackshawhead. For more details about the scheme and online forms to adopt a grid square, see the Adopt a Path section of the Hebden Bridge Walkers Action website.
