Buckets, spades and sand - but no pool

Bring your buckets and spades and come and play in the sand this summer holiday at Calder Holmes Park

Over recent years there have been on going problems with the much loved paddling pool in the play area at Calder Holmes Park. Due to changes in environmental and health and safety regulations it has not been possible to have the paddling pool filled and supervised on a regular basis and unfortunately this summer it can not be filled at all. Hebden Royd Town Council and Calderdale MBC are continuing to look for solutions to this problem and in the meantime Hebden Royd Town Council has been applying for funding to a create a new wet play area which is fully accessible and meets the current health and safety standards.

In the meantime for the summer holiday period Calderdale has agreed to create a beach style large scale sand pit filling the paddling pool area. Hebden Royd Town Council’s project officer told the Hebden Bridge Web:

'We know that this is not the same as a wet play area but we are hoping that a large size sand pit will bring some pleasure and creative play opportunities to the youngsters over the summer'

The sand pit will be raked and checked every morning by council employees and Hebden Royd Town Council will be starting the beach party off by supplying some stay in the park bucket and spades. Come along this Friday at 12 mid day for the official opening (weather dependent)
