Let us not walk away
Let us walk together
The recent deaths of brothers, Liam and Sam Jones, both to drugs and alcohol has prompted their sister Belinda, to hold a charity walk for Lifeline Calderdale.
Starting at Burnley Road playing field in Mytholmroyd and finishing in Hebden Bridge, the 5 mile walk will take place on Saturday 6th March. With a pram/ wheelchair/ family-friendly route, suitable for all abilities, the organisers are hoping for wide support from the local community.
The main purpose of the event is to raise awareness of drug and alcohol related issues amongst the youth and to highlight the support services already in place in Calderdale. Organisations that provide these services such as Lifeline, Step 2 and Positive Futures will be there on the day with information and advice for anyone who wants an informal chat.
''The death of both my brothers has prompted me to take positive action in addressing some of the problems the young people of Hebden Bridge and surrounding areas face whilst growing up," said Belinda.
"The idea to hold a charity walking event, stemmed from the release of the controversial film 'Shed Your Tears and Walk Away' in which Liam is featured. My hope is that it will bring our community together, raise some money and demonstrate to other young people who are struggling with addiction that they are supported, not judged, by their friends and neighbours”
Tickets and sponsorship forms for the event are available from Mytholmroyd Working Men's Club or Oasis Stores, William Holts, and Tony's Ring in Hebden Bridge. Under 16's are free and there is a £7.50 registration fee for adults.
