Since discovering your site I have been catching up with John Morrison's writings and have read many of the installments you have published.
Whilst I can see that John does have some writing talent I am surprised that the Hebden Bridge Web is in favour of allowing such a jaundiced bigot (I think he thinks he's being funny and ironic) to represent the view of Hebden Bridge which other people who know nothing about Hebden Bridge can freely access. Is no-one else bothered by this? I think that John's views are cynical and based on envy - an envy that only comes from being an outsider who can't gain access to other peoples' worlds without taking the piss.

Humour is very subjective. Affectionate or cynical: its up to the individual. But my writings do not claim to represent the views of Hebden Bridge people. As Liz has read many of the installments, while finding them jaundiced, I can only suggest that she stops reading them...

'Jaundiced bigot' eh? I wonder if Liz Anstee knows John Morrison at all, or whether she's just another of these trendy Mancunians who are increasingly blighting our lovely community here at Hebden Bridge.
Perhaps Mr Morrison has hit a raw nerve. He certainly has the eye - and the pen - to ruffle a few feathers, and long may he continue to do so! Methinks the lady does protest too much.
And, to be honest, I fine anyone who uses phrases like 'jaundiced bigot' beneath contempt and not really worth engaging in conversation with. Perhaps she's had too many glasses of Cabernet Sauvignon.

I may be a Mancunian but I am not trendy, Andrew! I also enjoy the odd glass of Cabernet Sauvignon but fair play, I also think Mr Morrison is an entertaining and talented writer/humorist as well as being a good egg .......... just making the point not all off-cum-dens are of same ilk......Coun Susan Press

John's writing was one of the factors that finally decided me to move to the area. A village that can very easily seem cliquey and pretentious really, really needs a public display of 'not taking itself too seriously' to give it a welcoming face.
... and any author that publishes whole swathes of text rather than a "sample chapter" clearly wants to communicate first and sell second. A rare thing, and to be encouraged (although presumably he's doomed to bankruptcy for it).

John Morrison keeps me sane!
Whilst I have been stranded in London these past few years, John's books are treasured and have been re-read until they are falling to bits. I recognise many of the characters for what they are - caricatures, and very funny ones at that. I'm not an offcumden, I'm Hebden born, bred and educated, and for what's it's worth, I think John is a very talented writer and a thoroughly affable chap (I wasn't paid to say that!).
