Let's move to Hebden Bridge

What is it with Hebden Bridge and the issue of house prices. In case they hadn't noticed this is a nationwide phenomena and not unique to those living round here. The Anti-Social debate rumbles on elsewhere on this forum and once again it has come up a comment on "southerners who have moved to Hebden after making a killing on the southern housing market, subsequently invading our once humble friendly town and escalating house prices way out of the realms of its inhabitants."

I've actually lived in and around Leeds and Manchester all my life and the reason we came here was actually, comparatively speaking, it was cheaper than the properties we could afford to get in those areas - I'm glad to see the most recent Guardian article making this point. Yes, it's pricier than some of the local neighbourhoods and that's because it's a nicer place to live! Of course, you could have houses as cheap as chips if you wanted to live in a village where things didn't move on - there's one round the corner - Burnley and look what's happening there. Which would you rather somewhere you're proud of and that others want to live in.

And actually, let me just get this right if you're an inhabitant doesn't that actually mean that you live here and therefore you've made a killing on your once 'humble' village house ... so what's the problem - as far as I can see everybody wins - you're quids in and here already and if you want to get away you've got the money to do so - which is more than I had on my first home?

I wouldn't waste your breath, Nicola. I moved into the area 5 years ago and I still cannot believe the attitude of some of the people who live here. I'm afraid you will always be considered an outsider who has somehow diminished the purity of Hebden with your presence. The only thing to take comfort from is that we are already here, more are coming and we have the financial clout to continue to grow our numbers

Maybe I'm lucky, maybe I'm naive, but I've lived here for 28 years (slightly more than 1/2 of my life, I'm stunned to realise) and I've only once in all that time had anything remotely like an 'off-cumden' jibe thrown my way.

Steve's comment 'we are already here, more are coming and we have the financial clout to continue to grow our numbers', if indicative of an attitude to fellow townspeople, may, I stress may be a reason why he is apparently considered 'an outsider who has somehow diminished the purity of Hebden'.
